Hail Storm Passing Through Minneapolis 2011

Minnesotans were surprised last yesr when a strong hail storm passed through the Minneapolis region, causing thousands of dollars in roofing and siding damage
to thousands of homes in the area. Hail starts out in the atmosphere as large as 2’ in diameter, but are more often about the size of a gold ball by the time they get here to the earth’s surface. Traveling from a few thousand feet in the air, at about 48 miles per second, these hailstones begin to melt down to a manageable size, if you can call it that. Nevertheless, even at this size, hail still causes thousands of dollars in damage every time it comes.

Minnesota roofing is the main victim of hail, but siding, landscaping, and cars are also feeling the brunt of yesterday’s storms. What homeowners need to remember is that hail can easily punch a hole in their shingles, and cause them to come lose. If the hail was accompanied by strong winds, it often peals open a spot on the roof that homeowners will never know about until the water starts to come inside.

This is why Quarve Contracting offers free storm damage estimates for our clients. We understand that what you don’t know WILL hurt you at time like this, and we are committed to serving our community all year long.

Don’t be swayed by those who knock on your door, asking to see if you had any damage, these roofing repair crews are transient, and will look for anything to make a claim on your insurance. Before you let anyone up on your roof, make sure they are properly insured and carry a valid MN license, or you could find yourself liable for any accidents that might take place.

Hail and ice are dangerous enough without letting some eager stranger crawl around on your roof, use your local contractor that will be here after this surge of work is completed.  Money comes and goes, and those who chase after it will too. Make sure  you call Quarve Contracting before you sign any other bids; we will be here when you need us, all year long. 763-785-1472

Increase the Value of Your House—Metal Steel Roofing Pays Off the Highest Return

Many people have decided the best way to protect their housing investment and save money is to stay in their current house. There’s good news, you can increase the value of your house by carefully considering the maintenance investments you make.  One of the best opportunities for a great payback on your investment can be found in putting metal steel roofing on your house. If you’re looking at a new roof considering the change from asphalt shingles to metal steel roofing can provide a big payoff.

Here in the North Country our roofs are vulnerable to the weather and insurance claims.  We have wind, hail, and fire. You see asphalt shingles on neighbor’s roofs or other homes while out for a drive that are curled, splitting, and molding. For most of us that brings the question home: How old is my roof? Typically, your asphalt roof could last for 12-15+ years, but with the right weather elements. Plus putting snow, ice dams, snow weight on the roof causes a whole new host of worries that result from snow. Because when we get the heaviest wettest snows out come the ladders, snow rakes, the calls to the roof snow removal crews, and the envy of those neighbor’s with the heating rods on their roofs.

Lighten up your worries, time, and save your back with metal steel roofing from Quarve, the Minneapolis, Minnesota Remodeling Contractor who can install a Modern Durable Alternative energy efficient roof that will make your roof virtually resistant to weather and will increase your house’s fire resistance.  You may qualify for a homeowner’s insurance discount because your insurance company will know you put on a steel roof that is going to stay put and is maintenance free. Plus, you’ll get a green roof since metal steel roofs are made from natural and recycled materials.

Call Quarve 763-785-1472 today the Minneapolis exterior remodeling contractor to help with your roofing, siding, or replacement windows and doors for your St. Paul/Minneapolis home.

Golden Valley Hail Causes a Stir

What a surprise last night’s storm was to residents of Golden Valley. With winds and rain that caused a fair amount of hail damage to roofing and property, the insurance claims are still coming in daily. If you are not sure if you need any hail
damage repair or not, don’t wait until your roof starts leaking. Call Quarve Contractors for a free roofing inspection and be sure that your home is still safe and sound.

Hail can pit and tear away roofing shingles just as if your roof was shot with buckshot. These small openings make you home more susceptible to insects, rain, and outside temperatures without you even knowing it. If you have a mortgage, then you have to have homeowners insurance, so give them a call to find out if you qualify for any repairs. We will meet them out there and help you sort out the next steps in order to get you your new roof, so you won’t have to worry about a thing.

Our team of professionals is experienced with how these things work, and we will make it easy for you to get your new roof with as little inconvenience as possible.

Be careful not to go with just any company, there are many storm chasers who will set up a temporary office nearby to cash in on storms like this. These companies are often not legitimate, and will only do the minimum amount of work to get aid. Once paid you will never see them again, or even know how to get in touch with them. We at Quarve Contracting are committed to establishing ourselves as the first name you think of when you need any home repairs.

Keep our number in your speed dial, and give us a call to make sure your roof is still in good condition. You won’t know for sure until you call. 763-785-1472

Hail Damage and Insurance Claims Go Hand in Hand

Repairing your home after hail damage is a relatively easy process to undertake. If you think you have hail damage from the recent storms that blew through our area, then simply call your insurance agent, and report a claim. He will them come out for an estimate, and detail the damages done. Make sure he goes up on the roof, and takes a close look, as hail will often damage flashing and gutters that cannot be seen with just a pair of binoculars. It is important to also have him check your siding and windows since these are often overlooked after a storm like this, but were equally as exposed as the roof was.

Once the estimate has been completed, give us a call at Quarve Contracting, and we will be able to begin the process. We will write our detailed estimate so that everyone is in agreement with each other, or we can simply come out to the property when your agent does, and all work together. This will greatly speed up the time it takes to get everything authorized, and avoid an infamous game of phone tag that is likely to begin. Once the settlement is understood by all, and agreed upon by you, our production team will get you scheduled. Your insurance company will issue a partial payment, and work can begin.

Some insurance companies will want to make another inspection half way through the job, and this is fine. We will inform you of that time and either call your agent for you, or invite you to be a part of the action, too.

If your insurance company is one that requires the mortgage company to cosign any checks, make sure that you don’t sign in their spot. This will void the check and delay payments until it is sorted out, so be sure to read carefully all documents before you sign them. If this is the case, you can bring the check to your mortgage company, or send it via certified mail. They will endorse the check and send it back to you with a few more documents to sign. Quarve contracting will be here every step of the way to help make this procedure go smoothly from the beginning to the end. We have done this countless times before and will make your hail damaged roofing repairs as easy as humanly possible. So give us a call, and let’s get started today. 763-785-1472

Is Your Home’s Exterior Ready for Winter?

Those icy blasts of Minnesota winters might seem a long way off on these days when the temperatures are approaching triple digits.   And those sunny skies and warm summer nights might make you forget those pounding spring and fall hail storms and heavy rains.  But don’t let the weather fool you – summer is a great time to have your roof and home exterior inspected to make sure your home is reading for the upcoming severe weather seasons.

As the Minneapolis/St. Paul area’s leading roofing contractor for over 27 years, at Quarve Contracting we know the importance of timely inspections and staying a step ahead of the elements.  If you’ve got a potentially leaky roof, the time to find out about it and repair it is when the sun is shining, not when the water is dripping into your living room.  And if those high winds have loosened or damaged your siding, now is the best time to take care of it.

A number of severe storm systems swept through the Twin Cities area late this spring, wreaking havoc and causing damage from Lakeville to Forest Lake.  Many homeowners are still awaiting necessary repairs.  Even though you’re fairly certain your home isn’t one of them, this summer season might be a great time to give your home the once-over and make sure you’re ready for winter.  Do you know the potential signs of storm damage?  Little dents or chips in your siding might indicate hidden damage.  Even slightly loosened sections might be a source of future trouble.

If you want to make sure that Mother Nature doesn’t come into your home uninvited this winter, call the exterior home improvement specialists at Quarve Contracting today.  Estimates are always free, and as the Twin Cities leading roofing contractor, we’re experienced at spotting and correcting signs of trouble before real damage sets in.  Call us today and be ready for winter.

Lakeville Hail Storms Could Spell Trouble for Your Asphalt Roof

Minnesota’s severe weather season has arrived,  as the recent hail storms in Lakeville indicate.   Roofs are the most likely area of your home to be damaged by hail, followed by gutters and siding.   And since your roof is your home’s first line of protection against the elements, ignoring possible spring storm damage could mean big trouble later on this year.

Large-size hail is the most likely to cause damage, but even small pea-sized hail can chip your shingles.  And a hail storm accompanied by high winds and heavy rains is even more threatening.  Has your home been affected by May and June storms?  One of the most noticeable telltale signs is an accumulation of roofing granules at the base of your downspouts.  It is not unusual to find some granules on the ground following a roof installation – it’s a normal side effect of the installation process.  But these granules are an important part of the integrity of your roofing material, so if you’re finding more than a small amount on your lawn, you may have have trouble up above.

Not all damage is immediately visible, especially to an untrained eye.  A roof inspection by an experienced storm damage expert like Quarve Contracting is important if your home is in an area which has been hit by one of those frequent Minnesota spring storms.  Even if your Lakeville home has suffered no damage, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your roof is intact.  An inspection following a severe storm is especially important if your roof is older, since deteriorating roofs are more susceptible to damage.  At Quarve we’ve had a lot of experience assessing and repairing storm damage.  And if we find damage, we’ll work closely with your insurance adjuster to make sure your claim is handled properly and that you have the compensation you’re entitled to.

Don’t ignore the possibility that hail has caused some damage to your roof.  Timely repair of minor damage can avoid extensive problems down the road.   Call the roof repair pros at Quarve Contracting today for a free inspection and estimate.

Metal Roofs Are Great Protection for Recreational Property

Minneapolis/St. Paul homeowners who have recreational property in the Twin Cities metro area have twice the worries whenever severe weather hits.  And since it’s not always available to run out and make a quick check on your cabin following a storm, it might be days before you’re aware of storm damage.  And by that time water intrusion or rodents might make the damage even worse.  But if your favorite relaxation spot is covered by a steel roof, you can rest a little easier when the hail, heavy winds, and pounding rain hit, because no roofing stands up better to the elements than metal.

You worked long and hard to be able to afford that cabin in the woods, and you’d like to be able to protect that investment, especially when you’re absent.  And your first line of defense against the weather is your roof.  You may have chosen your wooded spot for the shade and the seclusion, but those same trees that provide a great spot to hide away can also be a major threat to your roof in a storm accompanied by high winds.  Falling trees can severely damage roofs, and that damage can then be made worse by the rain coming in through the hole the falling tree punctured.

But if you’d like to keep both your shade trees and your intact roof, the Minneapolis roofing installation pros at Quarve Contracting have a great solution for you.  With steel and metal roofing there are no shingles or shakes to blow loose, no roofing granules to be damaged by hail.   Some of the other benefits of steel and other metal roofing include:

  • Superior resistance to hail damage
  • Performs better than other roofing choices in high winds
  • Fire resistant
  • Impact resistant

If you’re concerned that the roof on your metro area recreational home isn’t giving you adequate storm protection, contact Quarve today for a free estimate.  And by the way, steel roofs are great for your home, too – for the same reasons!

Forest Lake Area Hit by Two Tornadoes | Roofing Company Serving Forest Lake MN

Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes recently hit the Forest Lake area, causing property damage from high winds.  Local TV news reports confirmed touchdowns in that area by two separate tornadoes on Sunday, May 22nd.   So far damage reports are limited to trees only, but further investigation may reveal property damage as well.  High winds and rain which accompany storm systems such as this may have effects that aren’t immediately visible.  If you live in the Forest Lake area, your home may have been affected.  From a casual inspection, your roof may appear intact, but a professional inspection may reveal loose shingles.  Sections of your siding may have come loose as well.  Only a trained professional can tell you for sure whether your home has sustained storm damage.

Integrity of your home’s structure–especially the roof–is highly dependent on the condition of your roofing and your siding.  Loose or missing shingles can allow water to penetrate through, or may also provide a point of entry for insects and rodents such as squirrels.  Heating and cooling costs can also increase if your siding or roofing is loose.   Don’t let May’s stormy weather produce wet ceilings this fall.  If you live in an area hit hard by one of Minnesota’s severe storms–and especially if you hear reports of damage in your area–it’s a good idea to have a professional evaluation of the state of your home’s exterior.

If you’re a homeowner who believes you have sustained damage from these storms, a call to your insurance adjuster should be followed up by a request for a consultation from a trained storm hail damage professional like Quarve Contracting, Inc.  For over 27 years the licensed, experienced professionals at Quarve have been helping Washington County and other St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area property owners recover from severe storms.  The estimates are always free, and the peace of mind is priceless.
