Why Install Steel Siding?

Whether you want to sell your home or just make a good impression on friends who are visiting for the first time, you want to make sure your home looks its best. An unexpected, though durable, option to get the best look is to install steel siding.

Steel Siding is Durable
As expected, steel siding is one of the toughest options available. It can stand up to all but the harshest of weather and will not pry loose during the nasty storms Minnesota spring has to offer.  Plus, seamless steel siding won’t allow any water in, so the risk of rot is minimal.

Steel Siding Offers Long-Term Savings
Although steel siding is on the more expensive side, it pays for itself over time in a number of ways.

Low Maintenance
All it needs is a spray down with the garden hose and a very occasional touch up to its paint job after an especially bad hale storm.

Protective Paint
The paint will protect it from rusting.

Stands Up to the Elements
As mentioned above, it stands up to the weather far better than most other options.

Steel Siding is Available in a Variety of Colors and Styles
Seamless siding makes it look just like any other material, and it can be made in a many types of textures to fit your taste.

Because it’s easily painted, you can make your house any color you desire without need of reinstalling your siding.

Steel Siding Is Environmentally Friendly
If you’re as environmentally conscious as we are, you’ll appreciate the highly recyclable nature of steel, too. This siding can be made out of recycled material, and when it’s time to come off the house, will be put right back into the cycle to make new siding.

For a boost in home value and curb appeal, you have many options at your fingertips, but steel siding is a great option to put at the top of the list.  Quarve Contracting installs metal siding products such as steel siding from U.S. Seamless in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

Four Reasons to Install Steel Siding

Replacing siding is one of the most popular exterior home improvements, especially with low- maintenance options such as steel.  When we think of steel siding, the first image that usually comes to mind is that of either a mass storage facility or a small-town repair shop. What gets missed is the fact that homeowners can benefit from this type of siding, too.

Appearance
Although the first mental picture isn’t very flattering, the fact is that residential steel siding is available in many textures and colors. When it’s installed correctly, there are no seems to mar the appearance of the house, either.  It cuts down moisture risk more than other options, while maintaining the appearance of more traditional siding.

Weather Resistant
This type of siding is also extremely resistant to the elements. Hailstones that would dent traditional siding wouldn’t leave a mark in steel, and high winds won’t pull it back, either.  Scratches in the paint may open the steel up to corrosion over time, but scratches are easy to mend, especially when you spot them shortly after they appeared.

Environmentally Friendly
Unlike most other materials, steel is also extremely environmentally friendly. Most siding is made out of recycled metal, which continues the process of reuse.  When it’s time to get it replaced, steel siding can be put right back into the recycling process, dramatically cutting down on load put in a landfill.

Low Maintenance
Because steel is so tough, it doesn’t need to be replaced or mended very often. The most you would need to do is wash it down from time to time with a garden hose and take care of the rare scratch. That saves you quite a bit of money and energy which would have otherwise gone to seasonal caulking and maintenance.

When you combine its durability with the aesthetics available today, you can see the value steel siding could add to your home.  As a home remodeler committed to green home improvements, we’re proud to install seamless steel siding in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area.

How to Properly Clean Steel Siding

Steel siding is one of the most exciting exterior home remodeling products to emerge recently.  It’s durable, it’s beautiful, and it’s virtually maintenance-free.  But it does require a good cleaning once in awhile, because as far as we know, a self-cleaning siding product has yet to hit the market.

With the muddy spring we’re having, chances are that your siding is going to need a good cleaning as a part of your outdoor spring cleaning and home maintenance.  If your home is sided with a product such as steel residential siding from United States Seamless, you’ll want to clean it properly.  Steel has different cleaning requirements than wood or vinyl; here are the specifics:

  • While a power washer might be a little too aggressive for wood or vinyl unless you’re a professional, it’s the best tool for cleaning steel siding.
  • Chemicals you might use on wood or vinyl siding can cause damage to steel.  Put those away and simply make up a solution of 1/3 cup liquid laundry detergent and 6 gallons of water to use with the pressure washer.
  • Water and electricity don’t mix.  Make sure you turn off any breakers providing service to any exterior electrical – that includes lights and outdoor outlets.
  • Take a long-handled tool such as a deck brush or a telescoping handled brush and a bucket of plain water to first loosen any grime and dirt.  The brush should be soft bristled.   First stroke horizontally, then vertically to loosen anything that has been caked on.
  • Mold and mildew can build up in any areas where moisture might be trapped.  If that’s the case, apply a 1:3 solution of regular household bleach and water with a spray bottle before power washing.
  • Set your power washer on the lowest setting to apply the cleaning solution.  If you’ve never used one before, it’s a good idea to practice on a hard-to-damage spot such as your driveway or sidewalk before turning it on your house, because even set on low it packs quite a wallop.
  • Working in sections, rinse a washed area down with plain water from your garden hose.  Don’t let the soapy solution dry on the siding.
  • Put everything away – you’re done!  It might not be self-cleaning, but at least your siding is self-drying.

What’s Behind YOUR Siding?

We also choose building products like roofing, siding, windows, and other exterior products from companies who stand behind their products.  That’s why we recommend seamless steel siding from U.S. Seamless Steel Siding and fiber cement siding from the James Hardie Company.  These siding manufacturers (and other siding companies we work with)  have long-standing reputations for producing quality products, as well as outstanding warranties to back them up.

If you’re planning on having your St. Paul or Minneapolis area home resided soon, find out what’s behind the siding you’re considering.  Make sure your siding is backed by more than just the insulation and lumber behind it.  Call the siding pros at Quarve Contracting today – (763) 785-1472.  Consultations are always free, and the customer satisfaction is priceless.

What do the terms  ”going green” or  ”green building” actually mean? Many people think it’s making energy efficiency a goal for your home as well as promoting earth conservation. Those are the foundation of any green building project.  In green building, the right design can reduce your heating and cooling costs. But there is more to it than that.  Quarve as a Minneapolis area roofing contractor has been doing business in Minneapolis and St. Paul for nearly 30 years.  We specialize in green construction materials and practices.  This home improvement and remodeling  company makes green changes viewing the whole house as a system. We’ll focus on what you want to accomplish and what you’d like including new siding, roofing, and  windows.

A green idea we can recoomend:  Adding an aluminum or metal roof will keep your roof cooler during the summer as it reflects solar radiant heat. In the winter, the metal roof will prevent snow and ice build up and help keep your roof free of snow! At the same time you are saving energy costs. The proportion of recyled metal materials in metal roofs is high, so they are considered to be green roofing materials. Plus, unnecessary waste is eliminated during re-roofing a house with metal as it can be installed right over the existing asphalt roof. This helps save the landfills also.

If you are focusing on exterior remodeling, have storm damage, or are just considering changes with an eye towards “going green,” contact Quarve Construction, the energy-efficient roofing specialists.  We can help you buy and install the last roof you ever need to purchase.  Call today  – (763) 785-1472.

Lightning Is No Match For Homes Protected By Steel

Spring thunderstorms bring inevitable lightning strikes, and periodically a building catches fire as a result.  This is what fire investigators believe happened to a high-end home in the eastern metro area recently.  Fortunately the owners were not at home and no one was injured, but the second floor (including the roof) suffered major damage from the fire that resulted.    Quarve Contracting, the St. Paul/Minneapolis area’s leading roofing contractor, wants you to know that there are steps you can take to prevent something like this from occurring with your home.

Most traditional exterior building products such as siding and roofing are combustible.  Since these two materials cover a majority of the home’s exterior, that means that unless noncombustible or fire-resistant materials are used instead, in the face of a lightning strike, the house provides fuel for a fire rather than a defense against it.   The answer?  Steel roofing and steel or James Hardie fiber cement siding.  Steel is naturally noncombustible, and tests have shown that James Hardie fiber cement is second only to metal siding in terms of fire resistance.

Quarve knows that you want to your home to be attractive as well as well-protected from lightning damage.  That’s why they offer a wide range of roofing and siding products that are as beautiful as they are durable and fire-resistant.  Now you can give your home an attractive facelift while you protect and preserve it from Mother Nature’s unpredictably dangerous side.  And when you install steel roofing and/or siding or James Hardie fiber cement siding, your homeowner’s insurance company may give you a discount as well, due to their safety rating.

Contact the St. Paul/Minneapolis area roofing company that’s interested in helping you keep your home in beautiful shape for years to come.  We’ve worked with hundreds of your Twin Cities area friends and neighbors.  Let us help you  – call today at (763) 785-1472.  We serve the entire metro area, including the northern suburbs of Anoka, Hugo, and Forest Lake.

Protect Your Home with the Strength of Steel

In these uncertain economic times, protecting your investments has never been more important.  And for most people, the biggest investment they will ever make is in their homes.  Doesn’t it make sense to protect that investment with the strongest, most enduring products possible?  Quarve Contracting, one of the leading roofing companies in the St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area, recommends steel roofing and siding as the best home protection improvements possible.  No building materials withstand the harsh and changeable weather Minnesota’s climate offers as steel.  Quarve is proud to sell and install seamless steel siding from U.S. Seamless as well as steel roofing from Kassel & Irons.

You roof is your home’s first line of defense, and the siding is the “skin” that protects everything inside.  So why not cover and surround your home with the strength and endurance of steel?  Here are just some of the advantages of steel roofing and siding:

  • Steel roofing is lightweight; in most cases it can be installed over an existing roof, which saves money on tear-offs and keeps more roofing materials out of landfills
  • Steel is a “green” building product – nothing synthetic, and any residue or scrap is recyclable.
  • Steel is noncombustible, protecting your home from fire better than any traditional building products such as wood, vinyl, or asphalt or wood shingles.
  • Many insurance companies now offer discounts to homeowners who install steel roofing and/or siding.
  • Steel resists insect and rodent infestation, and is not susceptible to mold or mildew.
  • Steel is highly resistant to damage from hail.

For nearly three decades, the roofing and siding professionals at Quarve Contracting have been helping homeowners in the St. Paul and Minneapolis area protect and preserve the investments in their homes.  Call us today at (763) 785-1472 to see how we can help you.

TESTIMONIALS

After a hailstorm, we needed to repair our siding, fix our roof and replace some storm windows. We were fortunate to find Quarve as we couldn’t find another contractor who was willing to take on the entire job. The best part about with working with Pat Quarve was the attention to design detail. Quarve was also able to work with the insurance company to help negotiate a fair settlement.
Linda and Jim, Anoka

From the beginning, we had a very positive experience with Pat Quarve. It was less about the sale and more about how well Quarve was going to put the finishing touch on our project. We were also impressed at how well the crew worked together, as a team, efficiently doing the job right the first time! Should any prospective clients wish to see Quarve perfection, we invite them to come past our home and see for themselves.

The crew was terrific as were the people in the office in helping us manage all of the communication and paperwork with the insurance company, mortgage company and the city. We would definitely work with you again and recommend you to others.
