What to Consider When Installing Minnesota Metal Roofing

Posted by at 9:00 AM

There are some considerations that need to be taken into account before you decide on metal roofing for your home here in Minnesota. If you aren’t taking the time to think about these things before making your decision, you could end up picking the wrong roofing product,  And since a metal roof is designed to last a long time, you could be stuck with something that you simply don’t want.
Will it work for your roof specifically?
Certain types of metal roofing generally only work on roofs with a minimum pitch. There are other limitations for you to consider as well, which is why you have to take the time to really go over the limitations of the roofing you are thinking of to be sure that it’s going to fit your needs properly.
Do any warranties come with the roofing?
Find out if there are going to be any warranties that come along with your metal roof purchase. Are you covered in case something goes wrong with your roofing? Ask about the warranty and find out what it covers as well.  In most cases you should get two warranties:  one from the roofing material manufacturer that covers the roofing product, and one from the roofing contractor that covers the installation workmanship.
Are the metal roofing installers experienced?
Even top quality roofing isn’t going to hold up over time if it isn’t installed properly. That’s why the experience level of the installers means a whole lot. Always verify that the company you are working with is experienced with installing the type of roofing that you are getting and that they have a good track record of providing quality installations that last over time.
Are sections of your roof particularly flat?
Roofing sections with a really low pitch come along with a few different problems. The first is that snow and debris are more likely to accumulate on these spots, and the second is that - depending on the type of roofing - they may wear out faster than sections that are more steeply pitched.  If your roof has some flatter sections, your roofing company should install the roof so that it's easy to separate the material covering these sections if repairs or replacement are needed.
What type of flashing will be used?
The flashing used in between sections of roofing and around the edges of the house is just as important as the roofing itself, if not more so.  Flashing keeps moisture from seeping underneath the roof.  That’s why it should be durable material that’s going to hold up well over time. Make sure high quality flashing will be used.
