Identifying Storm Damage on Your Roof – Part 2

Posted by at 9:00 AM

Even though we've had really mild weather lately, you know that big snowstorm is coming. And if a major storm doesn't hit this season, there's always spring and its hail and heavy rain storms.  Storms are a reality in Minnesota, and storms mean damage, especially to roofs.  In a recent article we discussed some basics of roofing damage from storms. (If you haven't read it yet, click here.) When a storm comes through the Twin Cities, there are many things to watch out for. Being able to identify the damage is a great thing that you want to make use of. Hiring a company to come in and take a look is a great thing to think about. You can have them give an assessment of the roof and then do the repairs that are necessary before a problem happens because another storm came through and the original damage wasn’t taken care of right away. You’ve likely read the first part of this where a few of the things were spoken of, but you should also make sure to keep your eyes peeled for these signs of damage, as well.

Creased Shingles: When a heavy wind has gone through the area, you might notice that the shingles on your roof are creased or otherwise bent out of shape. Damaged shingles are problems waiting to happen.  When the next wind storm blows, it can actually push the shingles off the roof and leave these areas open to rain, insects, rodents, and more. Always Fix Roofing Damage Right Away: Any storm damage to a roof should be repaired as quickly as possible.  Even the slightest problem could lead to major issues of not taken care of quickly.   You may be surprised how the smallest gap can let in lots of water, resulting in damage not only to your roof and its underlying structure but even the interior of your home.
