Signs That Your Windows Might Need to be Replaced

Posted by at 9:00 AM

What shape are your windows in?  The windows on any home play a huge part in the home as a whole such as being able to regulate temperature, noise level, the amount of sun that comes in, as well as keeping out moisture and dust. With the right windows you're able to look outdoors, enjoy the view and even add to the beauty of your home, both indoors and out. This is why having beautiful, long-lasting and great working windows is a must on any home. But how do you know when it is time to take the money and put it down on new windows? Warning Signs of Deteriorated or Ill-Fitting Windows
  • You cannot easily open or close the windows. You might be feeling a bit frustrated when this happens, but if the foundation gas shifted or if the windows are old, broken or anything in between –if  they are not going to budge, it might be best to just put in new ones. As you're considering the cost, consider this - windows that don't fit properly could be costing you more in your energy bills, so replacing them will actually save you money in the long run.
  • There is fog (condensation) collecting between the glass frames that is impossible to clean off. This is a big issue that you need to take care of since you want to ensure that you can see through the windows; this is what they are there for. Condensation not only impairs your view, it can lead to mold development as well as wood rot around the windows.  This is also an indication that you're getting air leakage.  If you have bad seals or the window frames have warped, it might be time to replace them.
  • You have faded furniture, curtains or carpet due to the sunlight coming through and beating down on one particular place. This is because the old windows in your home do not have low-E glass in them and it is causing the sun to fade carpet, upholstery, and even cause deterioration to your wood trim and furniture.
  • There is moisture collecting in the window or on the windowsill. This could happen because they are not sealed and they might not even be fully closing. This can cause water damage and even have the windows warp as well. This might even cause problems with the rest of the walls in the home. A MN window installation contractor can help you determine if that is in fact the cause (sometimes it is due to other factors, such as simply having excessive humidity in your home).
  • Your home is constantly going from hot to cold, depending on the time of the year it is and you're paying really high prices for your energy bills – this means that something is causing the heat to be lost in the winter and the hot air to stay inside during the summer. Save yourself some money and replace those windows with more energy-efficient ones.
