As a licensed Minnesota home improvement contractor specializing in metal roofing and siding, we love it when homeowners choose to give their homes the utmost protection when they have us install both in one project.  These great products deliver fantastic benefits for homes in our area, but when they're combined, we think it is just the very best. The owners of this home in St. Paul agreed. Metal roofing and siding have similar characteristics, and the benefits are similar. Here are just a few:
  • Terrific expected life - long beyond other traditional materials
  • Eco-friendly and 100% recyclable
  • Durable and highly resistant to Minnesota weather, especially hail and high winds

Details on This St. Paul Exterior Home Remodel

As is usually the case, this home had some major issues the owners wanted corrected when we first talked to them about their project.  This particular house had an addition that had been put on, and it was really obvious.  (A well-done addition should look like it was part of the original structure and not something stuck on later.) And to make it even worse, the home had three different types of siding on it.  Now, often you can combine siding for a great custom look, but that wasn't the case here.

There were a few other issues that we dealt with as well, including a sagging roof as well as lack of adequate ventilation under the roof and insufficient insulation.

Before we got going on installing the metal roofing and siding selected by the owners, we first pulled off the roof sheeting so we could install additional 'sister' rafters alongside the existing ones to correct the sagging.  We also removed the eyebrow roof on the side of the house - it had made the additional even more noticeable.  Then before we installed the new steel roof, we added extra insulation and proper venting. Ventilation under a roof is extremely important to its proper functioning.  Adding more insulation without doing this can often make problems even worse, or create trouble that didn't exist before.

The combination of the new metal roof and the same seamless steel siding on the entire exterior completely transformed this home. The fact that an addition had been put on was no longer apparent.

And these homeowners have the peace of mind knowing they'll never need another roof or more siding. Both are designed to last for decades, no matter what kind of weather the Twin Cities experienced.

What did we use on this home?  The steel roof is KasselWood shingle by Kassel & Irons (color - Aged Cedar), and the siding is 3" profile seamless steel by Emco (in Northwoods).

Wish we had a 'before' picture to show you the incredible difference this remodeling made, but we think you'll agree this home looks pretty good. And it will continue to look that way for years to come.
