Real estate professionals talk a lot about curb appeal when describing a home.  And while it's very important if you're planning on selling your home, it's also something that should matter even if you're planning to stay in your home indefinitely.  And many homeowners around the Minneapolis and St. Paul area are finding out what this Ham Lake couple did - steel siding can provide lasting beauty as well as value.

(We also installed a new CertainTeed asphalt roof as part of this remodel, but we'd like to focus on the siding in this post.)

Wouldn't you like to have a feeling of pride as you drive up to your house and say, "Yes, that's my home"?   We trust that our steel siding installation on this home did just that for its owners.

Siding Project Details

This home had vinyl siding that was both faded and storm damaged.  Also, an addition had been put on, and due to the fading of the existing vinyl, the newer siding didn't quite match in color, and the addition was obvious.

The owners wanted a siding product that would hold up better to storms and sunlight than the vinyl siding they had before, so we suggested steel siding from Emco.  We used a 5" double lap product in Khaki.  One great advantage this siding material has is that it is produced on site to the size needed, so it is seamless.  That means even on the 60' side there is no seam to break up the look.  And now the new addition looks like it's always been a part of the home.

As part of the siding installation, we also added a few design details to ramp up the curb appeal.  You'll note from the photo that the cable ends are rather large and not broken up by windows.  We installed keystone vents as well as larger headers over the garage doors and front windows in lighter trim color. These extra touches really add to the appearance and finish off the front of the home.

Finally, the steel siding, as well as the coordinating trim, soffit, and fascia, is maintenance-free and will retain its color for decades without fading.  And the storms that often hit the Ham Lake area will be no match for the durability of steel.
