When it comes to replacing the roof on your home, there is so much that goes into considering what type of roofing to get next, and which contractor is going to provide you with the best installation and price.

This is when your head might start to whirl.

Perhaps you're having a hard time choosing which roof and contractor works the best for you. You might be tempted to go with the cheapest, but they could take up to three weeks to complete the installation, and you might get poor quality workmanship.

Or you might have to consider replacing the whole roof, and someone says this is going to be $20,000.  Sticker shock!  Are you going to get what you pay for?

But your roof can't be ignored, so you've got to look for the best roofing solution for you that still works within your budget.

As a homeowner, there are two things you need to do when you've got to replace your roof.

  1. Researching the contractor and company that you’re thinking about working with. Find out about their background before you ask for a bid.  Ask for references and follow up on them.  It's not a bad idea to drive by and look at some of the roofs they've done.  A reputable contractor won't have any problems with giving you this information.
  2. Getting as many bids as possible on the job. This is because not only do you want to consider their backing and professional knowledge, but you want to find out who has the best price, the best service and of course, the best products.
Make sure you’re paying for a quality job to be done. This is why it is increasingly important that you understand some of the costs that are associated with what comes next when it comes to paying for a roofing job and knowing what to expect. You do not want to over-pay, but you also do not want to be tricked into paying a lower price and having them do a horrible job that may cost you even more down the road in terms of repairs.

In this series we'll give you some important regarding the condition of the old roof, the size and placement of the new one, the materials, the contractor and other specifics that might be helpful as you're choosing the best possible solution for the roofing need you have.

Here's one that's very important:  Make sure to ask any roofing contractor these 5 questions prior to hiring them for the job.
